The program is used for chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of at least 30 kg/m². Additional consideration is given to patients with a BMI of 25-29 kg/m² who have at least one weight-related co-morbidity. These co-morbidities include but are not limited to: type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hypertension, arthritis, sleep apnea.

Dosing is individualized and will be determined based on specific patient goals and outcomes. Gradual increase in dosing is used to combat the associated gastrointestinal side effects. 

*** Caution is exercised with patients with the following: history of pancreatitis, hypoglycemia, acute kidney injury, diabetic retinopathy, tachycardia.

Boxed warning/contraindications:

• Patients with a personal or family history of thyroid cancer

• Patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome

• Focus on good sleep/rest Increase water intake

• Improve nutrition, watching caloric and macro intake

• Exercise, including weight lifting. 

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are medications that should be monitored and prescribed appropriately. As with any medication, there are subsequent risks that at times can outweigh the risks.
