The Beaumont offers a wide range of services tailored specifically to men’s health, specializing in testosterone replacement.

Our men’s health services focus not only on current symptoms, such as fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, and hair loss, but also focus on optimizing your health from a longevity standpoint. We aim to reduce your risks of cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, and dementia, to name a few.

We use a complexity of testing, including in office lab testing, genetics testing, and body composition analysis to help guide us on your journey.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

For men, hormonal decline can begin as early as mid 20s, with men typically experiencing a 1% yearly decline in testosterone after age 40. Because laboratory findings are simply guidelines, many men when tested are told that their testosterone is within normal limits, when in fact they could benefit from BHRT. For men, it is most commonly used to treat symptoms of andropause which include fatigue, irritability, insomnia, decreased libido, decreased muscle mass, erectile dysfunction, depression, etc.

Improvement of mood and energy

Many people associate testosterone with “rage.” But testosterone optimization can actually have the opposite, more calming effect, showing it successful in improving irritability, anxiety and depressive symptoms in those men with low T. TRT may be considered in men with testosterone deficiency syndrome if low testosterone levels are associated with depression or cognitive impairment PMC5209560

Improved focus / decreased brain fog

Increase lean muscle mass and strength

Improved libido and performance

Improved cardiovascular function

Testosterone can play a significant role in maintaining cardiovascular health, helping regulate blood pressure and maintain blood vessel health. Some research also suggests that maintaining healthy testosterone levels might help prevent the buildup of harmful cholesterol in your body, and help reduce high levels of cholesterol.

Improved weight reduction and fat metabolism

Testosterone influences how the body stores and utilizes fat. Low testosterone can disrupt healthy fat metabolism, and can lead to increased body fat, particularly around the abdomen. It has also been noted to decrease sugar cravings.

Prevent bone and muscle loss

Reduce sleep disruptions

Testosterone replacement can help men sleep deeper and longer with fewer interruptions. A cohort study of community-dwelling men aged 65 shows that men with lower testosterone levels had lower sleep efficiency, increased nocturnal awakenings, less time in slow-wave sleep, a higher apnea-hypopnea index, and more sleep time with O2 saturation levels below 90% PMC2453053

Is testosterone replacement only for males?

No. Testosterone is found and needed in both males and females and plays a large role in women’s health. Some studies state that women begin to decline in testosterone in their 20s, and they can see a significant reduction in testosterone production by the mid 30s. HAIR RESTORATION / PRP INJECTIONS

Alopecia (hair loss) is a progressive, multifactorial condition that has different forms and causes, determined by a combination of both genetic and extrinsic factors. The combination of both factors should be addressed as a whole during alopecia treatment.

When it comes to hair loss, one of the main goals of therapy is determining the root cause of the problem. The most common cause of hair loss is linked to genetics. About 80% of men show signs of male pattern baldness by age 70 years. Approximately 80 million men and women in the United States alone suffer from hair loss and hair thinning. The most common hair loss type, known as androgenetic alopecia, is hereditary. If left untreated, hair loss usually progresses over time. We offer genetic testing that delivers invaluable information to support our practitioners in developing the optimal treatment plan for you.

BESIDES GENETICS, WHAT CAN CAUSE HAIR LOSS?

  • Hormone changes / thyroid disease

  • Medications and supplements (heart, blood pressure, depression)

  • Infections or illness

  • Sudden or excessive weight loss

  • Poor health choices (diet, smoking)

  • Psoriasis

  • Vitamin deficiencies (iron, vitamin D)

  • Anxiety/depression

  • Hairstyles and treatments

HOW CAN PRP INJECTIONS HELP?

Although PRP injections are not a cure for the condition of hair loss, they can be effective in treating hair loss, preventing hair loss and promoting new hair growth. PRP injections have been deemed simple, cost effective and feasible treatment options for androgenic alopecia, with high overall patient satisfaction. We typically encourage treatments every 3-4 weeks for the first 3 treatments, followed by every 3-6 months or as deemed necessary by our medical staff. PMID: 25136212

WHAT DOES THE PRP PROCEDURE LOOK LIKE?

The full procedure takes about an hour. We will first draw a sample of your blood, spin it in a centrifuge, and separate the platelets and growth factors. We will then use the extracted PRP as a serum that we inject into the areas of concern. Most patients report minimal discomfort, if any, and return to work the next day. We typically encourage and see best results with stacked treatments several weeks apart followed by maintenance procedures every 3-6 months.
